Project Description
Vernacular Architecture introduces the traditional typologies of housing, agriculture, crafts and trade around the globe. Adapted to climate, natural resources and cultural conditions, these vanishing building cultures offer truly sustainable clues to our crucial question: How to build and how to live sustainably again? The seminar explores projects to understand the complex simplicity of buildings made from purely natural materials.
Teaching Method
The module involves interactive lectures with exercises to integrate theoretical knowledge with critical analysis skills. Case studies are used to discuss the course contents. Recent scientific publications from Sustainable Design and vernacular architecture are examined in class.

Relevant reading will be made available at the beginning of the course. A list of recommended literature will be announced in the course and updated on an ongoing basis.
Assessment Methods
Minimum 75% compulsory attendance and continuous assessment.
The final grade is calculated according to the weighting of the following components: final submission (80%) and active participation (20%).
