NUSCT is a network of universities in small countries and territories. Its aim is to promote benchmarking in areas of common interest, such as governance models, partnerships between education/research and the private sector, and fundraising. The network also serves as a platform for sharing information on best practices in funding models and internationalisation efforts. Furthermore, it provides a forum for discussion on topics such as performance enhancement and how member institutions respond to evolving societal expectations, demands for new professional skills and the introduction of new technologies.

The Network of Universities of Small Countries and Territories arose from a shared need to address issues specific to higher education institutions operating in the socio-political and economic contexts of small countries and territories, which are often marginally addressed by existing international university associations.

The University of Liechtenstein places great importance on excellence in teaching and research. Every six years, the entire University undergoes a quality review by the Swiss Accreditation Council. The Swiss Accreditation Council is the joint body of the federal government and the cantons for accreditation and quality assurance in the Swiss higher education landscape. It is therefore the responsible institution for accreditation procedures under the Higher Education Act (HFKG), whether for institutional or programme accreditation. The University of Liechtenstein is thus subject to the same standards as Swiss universities and is also integrated into the Intercantonal Financial Equalisation scheme.

The University and its subject-related schools maintain close contacts with various companies, interest groups and civil society organisations. This networking strengthens the regional anchoring of the University of Liechtenstein and, in combination with the University’s international network, also promotes the internationalisation of the region.
