Learning Results

Masterstudiengang Architektur (MA AR 06) (01.09.2006)
Masterstudiengang Architektur (MSc AR 08) (01.09.2008)
Project Description
  • Approaches to theoretical topics of particular relevance to the semester through notional explanations, discussions and clarifications, and based on the reading of key texts from the sciences and the arts
  • Historiographical discussion of the 'making of architectural history and theory'; notes on the making of history in architecture from various perspectives, such as political, economical, sociological, philosophical, and cultural.
  • Introduction and construction of archives of perceptual impressions from the physical/neurological domain, and their interpretations through the cognitive sector through models, speculations and concepts, building on the primary biological developments.
Teaching Method
Lectures, seminars.
Learning Objectives
The module Courses Design Theory I seeks to establish the theoretical foundations for the concentration Design Theory.
The topics for the first semester center on issues regarding the theoretical planning and construction of space proper considering notions such as typology, morphology and style; the discussion of the historical emergence of the concept of 'architectural' space as a product of social constructivist processes, considering the impact of ideological, political, and ecomical forces; an introduction to the fundamental aspects of processes of perception that enable occupants of architectural spaces to mentally construct a representation of these spaces.

The aim is to provide students with the necessary knowledge and intellectual instruments to approach the problems discussed in the design project studios.
Learning Results
At the end of the module each student should have the ability to demonstrate and/or work with:
  • knowledge on the humanistic currents through the reading of selected literature
  • An understanding of the history of architecture reinterpreted considering political, sociological, and economical aspects.
  • An insight into the structure and the workings of the outer organs of perception and perception in general.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with other students for assignments, readings and protocols.
  • The ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts comprehensibly in visual, oral and written forms.
  • Present and evaluate arguments, information and ideas concerning the various fields discussed in this module, and the ability to integrate these aspects in their individual design thinking and work.
Assessment Methods
  • The various assessment methods are discussed in the descriptions of the single courses.
Examination
All courses in the module have to be passed with a sufficient grade (minimum grade of 4.0).
The module grade will be determined from the weighted average of the single course grades.

  • Architectural Theory 33%
  • History of Architecture 1 33%
  • Cognitive Science for Architects 1 33%

Masterstudiengang Banking and Financial Management (MSc BFM 08) (01.10.2008)
Project Description
  • Identification of a research problem and development of a research question
  • Thematically formulating a problem and developing a solution through application of scientific methods
  • Independence in handling a research problem determined in the course of an assessment. Discussion with the advisor about methodological and content issues in solving a research topic.
  • Completion of a comprehensive assignment where the students deal with a practice-oriented problem in their area of specialisation by drawing on scientific work methods.
  • Completion of presentation documentation on a research problem within their specialised area.
  • Lecture dealing with a research question in their specialised area
  • Defending of their lecture and specialised discussion with the examination board
Learning Results
After completion of the module, the students have acquired a detailed knowledge and a critical understanding of their research topic.

They have at their disposal specialised knowledge of methods and procedures for processing and data and explaining it in a structured manner. The exhibit originality and creativity in the application of their knowledge. The students complete research and development projects, applying specialised research methods, survey and development techniques by drawing on their previously acquired skills. Additionally, they present the significant findings of their project to specialists as well as laities, thereby utilising various communication methods in order to illustrate complex data on a scientific level.
