Registration, Application and Admission

Learn the difference between registration and application, and find out which requirements you need to meet to be admitted to your chosen programme.

No Admission Procedure Required for Short-Format Programmes

Short professional education formats such as intensive courses, seminars, workshops, events, and conferences do not require a separate admission process. You can register directly online using the registration form and easily benefit from our professional education offerings.

Applicants may be admitted to a programme if they meet the requirements outlined below and submit all necessary documents (as specified in the application form) within the stated deadline. Admission is granted in the order in which complete applications are received.

The application process begins with the submission of the application form. Early application is strongly recommended.

The final admission decision is made by the programme director based on a review of the application documents submitted on time and in full.

Admission Requirements for Master’s Programmes (MBA, LL.M.) and Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS)

To be admitted to a professional Master's programme (such as an MBA or LL.M.) or a CAS programme, applicants generally need to hold a university degree or an equivalent qualification.

Alternatively, admission is possible for applicants who have completed a tertiary education and/or professional education programme comprising at least 60 ECTS credits, along with six years of professional experience – of which at least three years must be in a field relevant to the chosen programme.

Admission Requirements for Diploma and Certificate Programmes

Diploma and certificate programmes offer compact, practice-oriented professional education. While a university degree or comparable qualification is generally recommended, these programmes are also open to applicants with a secondary school-leaving qualification (e.g. Matura or vocational Matura) and relevant professional experience, as well as graduates of subject-specific vocational training programmes.

Admission "sur dossier"

If you do not hold a university degree or do not fully meet the formal admission requirements for a given programme, you may still be eligible for admission "sur dossier", depending on the programme. This typically requires a relevant professional background (six years of work experience, including three years in a related field). Where necessary, your academic aptitude will be assessed individually as part of the admissions process.

Capacity and Deadlines

Each programme has a limited number of places. Admissions are granted on a rolling basis, subject to availability. Please make sure to observe the specific application deadlines and dates published for each programme.

Kinder-Uni Hauptbild

Since 2005, the University of Liechtenstein has successfully offered the format of the Children’s University. In lectures held in the auditorium, the university’s lecturers and researchers present topics from architecture and economics in a way that is suitable for children, answer questions and unravel a number of mysteries.

Upcoming Dates
Kinder-Uni Hauptbild

Since 2007, parents and accompanying persons have been able to attend lectures on education and upbringing at the same time as the Children’s University lectures. Care is taken to ensure that the lectures of the Children’s University and the supporting programme address similar topics in order to encourage subsequent exchange of ideas between children and accompanying persons.

Children between the ages of 4 and 7 are cared for free of charge so that parents can attend the lectures of the supporting programme without concern. Games, books, drawing materials, drinks and fresh fruit are provided.

After the Children’s University, all children and parents are warmly invited to an afternoon snack in the foyer.

The parking spaces at the University of Liechtenstein belong to the municipality of Vaduz. For this reason, we kindly ask you to purchase a parking ticket in order to avoid a possible fine. Thank you very much.

Dr. Johannes Herburger and Dr. Luis Hilti: One Liechtenstein for 100,000

Hilti und Herburger Referenten Campusgespräche

Liechtenstein is one of the few countries where more people work than live. More than half of the workforce commutes daily. Time and again, voices are raised calling for a liberalisation of immigration policy to enable these workers and their families to settle. This raises complex questions concerning spatial and housing policy, as conventional development strategies reach their long-term limits. What is needed are new guiding principles and sustainable concepts for an urban future and its interaction with the Alpine region.

Prof. Dr. Herfried Münkler

Herfried Münckler Referent Campusgespräche

Prof. Dr. Herfried Münkler analyses the geopolitical upheavals following the end of the previous world order and outlines a possible new system of regional spheres of influence dominated by five major powers. In doing so, he highlights both risks and opportunities for Europe and raises the question of how small states such as Liechtenstein can act within this new order. Münkler is one of the most distinguished political scientists in the German-speaking world and, with his analysis, provides a well-founded outlook on the power relations of the twenty-first century.

Bettina Walch: "We Must Become Richer … in Biodiversity."

Bettina Walch Referentin Campusgespräche

“Biodiversity is the foundation of our lives,” says Bettina Walch, pointing to the many benefits of nature such as clean drinking water, fertile soils and recreational spaces. Despite its importance, biodiversity is coming under increasing pressure due to the growing demand for energy: already, one third of all species and half of all habitats are considered endangered. Walch is convinced: “We are all part of the solution, even small contributions can help to preserve natural diversity.”

Stefan Aust: "Time Travel and Future. Learning from History?"

Stefan Aust Referent Campusgespräche

Stefan Aust is one of the most influential journalists in post-war German history. In his autobiography Zeitreise, he looks back on a life at the centre of media and political events. Aust not only recounts stages such as Panorama, Spiegel TV and his time as editor-in-chief of Der Spiegel, but also provides insights into his investigations into historical turning points. The book combines journalistic contemporary history with compelling reportage and demonstrates how closely Aust remained in touch with political developments over decades.

University in Dialogue

The University of Liechtenstein sees itself as an active part of society and contributes to public debates through events and formats. Whether at the Campus Talks on current topics, the Dies Academicus as the academic highlight of the year, or the Children’s University, which inspires curiosity and excites young people – dialogue is at the centre. The aim is to make science tangible, to foster dialogue and to reflect together on the major questions of our time.

Professorial Appointment Procedure

Process of an Appointment Procedure

We conduct appointment procedures for filling professorships according to clearly defined and transparent processes. The goal is to attract outstanding individuals for research, teaching and knowledge transfer.

The process begins with a thorough needs analysis by the Rectorate and a decision by the University's Council. A selection committee is then established, consisting of internal and external members. This committee assesses the applications received using clear criteria, such as academic excellence, teaching experience, success in securing external funding, leadership skills and commitment to supporting early-career researchers.

Suitable candidates are invited to deliver a public presentation. This is followed by an interview with the selection committee. In addition, external reviews may be obtained to evaluate academic achievements. The committee then prepares a prioritised shortlist, which is submitted to the University Council for a final decision. Once successful contract negotiations have been concluded with the proposed candidate, the appointment procedure is complete.
