Certificate Programme in Journalism

Finally seeing your own name online or in the newspaper, under an article you wrote yourself – that is still the goal of many young people looking to start a career in the media. But how do I find compelling topics, ask critical questions, prepare for an interview, or recognise fake news?

Real or Fake?

Especially in times of AI-generated texts and convincingly manipulated videos, serious and high-quality journalism is more important than ever. This three-week programme provides a practical introduction to the world of media and teaches the ABCs of journalism. Students learn how to find compelling topics, make sensible use of modern technologies, question information critically, and conduct and write interviews. During their stay in Vaduz, they will create their own articles for the local media.

Learning from the Best

Pulitzer Prize-winner Christo Buschek and other successful media professionals will once again be part of the teaching team. Quality journalism and strong networks encourage active participation in public life and foster critical thinking.
In 2010, the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein, together with the University of Liechtenstein, launched the International Media Academy. Designed as a certificate programme, the International Media Academy aims to enhance the quality of journalistic reporting on socio-political issues by awarding scholarships and supporting the professional development of emerging media talent.

The call for applications is aimed at aspiring journalists and young professionals from the four-country region of Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland – and all those with an excellent command of German.

12 Scholarships Available

The Principality of Liechtenstein awards twelve scholarships for this intensive university programme, which offers first-class networking opportunities and supports career entry. Travel and accommodation costs are to be organised and covered by the students themselves. The International Media Academy is structured according to the Bologna principles. Upon successful completion, all participants earn 10 ECTS credits as well as a diploma and a diploma supplement from the University of Liechtenstein.
