Blended Intensive Programme

As part of the Erasmus+ programme generation (2021–2027), the Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) mobility format was introduced. This format enables short-term group mobility that combines physical and virtual components. Partner universities jointly develop mobility curricula and activities, with the virtual phase supporting collaborative learning. This fosters international cooperation, enhances the quality of teaching and strengthens students’ intercultural skills. At the same time, BIPs offer students who are unable to participate in long-term mobility the opportunity to gain valuable international experience through a short-term programme. In this way, Erasmus+ activities are becoming more inclusive and forward-looking.

  • Participation of at least three partner universities from Erasmus+ programme countries.
  • Physical stay of at least 5 days and no more than 30 days.
  • A minimum of 10 mobile students must participate in person.
  • The BIP must include both a virtual and a physical phase.
  • The BIP must award a minimum of 3 ECTS credits.
  • Conclusion of an Erasmus+ bilateral agreement.

The coordinating university holds primary responsibility for the organisation, application process and administration of a BIP and receives financial support in the form of OS funds (organisational support). In most cases, it also acts as the host institution. However, the BIP may also take place at a different university.

The organisation includes a digital learning agreement and the issuing of a transcript of records. The following points should be especially noted for an incoming BIP:

  • Students from the organising university may participate in the BIP, but they do not count towards the minimum number of mobile participants.
  • A partner university from outside Europe may be added as a fourth partner.

The OS funds range from €4,000 to €8,000 depending on the number of participants (minimum of 10). These funds may be used for the preparation, development, implementation and administration of the BIP. This includes, for example, personnel costs (e.g. student assistants), teaching materials, printing costs, room hire, public relations, catering, translation services, events, excursions, and so on.

However, these funds may not be used to cover mobility costs under the BIP or to increase individual support.

Mobile participants are funded by their respective sending university through Erasmus+ funds. This applies to both students and university staff wishing to take part in a BIP.

A BIP is coordinated by a partner university in a European programme country, while the University of Liechtenstein participates as a partner university and sends mobile students and staff to the BIP. Participants from the University of Liechtenstein receive a grant to support their participation in the programme.
After nomination by the International Office, students are informed about the required steps and deadlines.
