This module is a cross-faculty elective course of all PhD programmes of the University of Liechtenstein. It is a joint course, involving students from different schools, in order to broaden the students` horizon beyond their individual disciplinary focus and to enable them to reflect and discuss their own work from the perspective of different disciplines.

The course is organized in form of a Doctoral Consortium, in which participants present their research and discuss it with the faculty and fellow PhD students of the course. The primary objective of the research colloquium is to present and justify the PhD students' research in an interdisciplinary research colloquium.

Assessment by the professors enables candidates to appraise if their research ideas meet the requirements and goals of a dissertation. Since the research colloquium is mentored by an interdisciplinary academic committee, this module also serves to further develop the communicative and social competences of the students.

Students receive feedback on their research by faculty members of different faculties. Moreover, they benefit from listening to the other students' experiences and results. As a research colloquium the module aims at deepening both, methodological and professional research skills of the students. In addition, the module is designed to position and reflect their work in academic research communities beyond their own fields.

The interdisciplinary nature of the course is an important element to enable the students to engage with other in making contributions of value to society. We understand that such solutions do not come from single disciplines but live on the interdisciplinary discourse, which requires both methodological as well as conceptual and social skills, which are delivered in this course.

Students benefit from listening to the other students' experiences and debating results with a focus on the specific disciplines, styles of inquiry, and learning cultures at the University of Liechtenstein. Key elements include the problematization, research question, relevant theoretical lenses and conceptual frameworks, specific strategies of inquiry, and measures to comply with the respective research standards.

This module addresses the researcher's ability to manage projects, work autonomously, think analytically, and be creative, inquisitive, and original.

The research proposal is a research plan. The contents of the research proposal are governed by the curricula of the doctoral degree programmes. If a cumulative dissertation is intended, it is necessary to mention the publication journals and the number of publications planned. The formal aspects of the research proposal must comply with the "Guidelines for Writing Academic Papers at the University of Liechtenstein".

In the colloquium on the research proposal, the doctoral student shall present his/her dissertation project and provide reasons for his/her chosen approach.

The grade for the research proposal will be determined by taking the average of the grades given by the supervisor and the co-supervisor.

In the viva voce examination the doctoral student proves that he/she meets the requirements on the dissertation by publically defending his/her dissertation.

The Chairperson of the Board of Examiners, the supervisor and the co-supervisor(s) shall determine a grade for the viva voce examination.

The doctoral consortium is an opportunity to sharpen and deepen both focus and methods of research, supervised by a group of external professors and/or advisors. It is designed to foster the presentational, critical and discursive skills in a group of international peers. By submitting their work-in-progress and interim results to an international doctoral consortium candidates also learn how to position their work in a competitive research environment.
Applications are refereed through an academic committee. Participants benefit from understanding others' experiences and results and receive valuable feedback from consortium chairs and other participants. A joint publication is to result from a consortium. A doctoral consortium will take the form of a multi-institution and often international seminar, workshop or summer school - an example can be found on www.dokonara.org, the consortium on sustainable spatial development our University participates in each year.

Students will be assisted by lecturers of the Institute of Architecture and Planning at the University of Liechtenstein in preparing their proposal and application for their doctoral consortium participation. Insights acquired will be discussed and reinforced by your doctoral supervisor and other advisors at the University of Liechtenstein.

The primary objective of the doctoral consortium is for the candidates' doctoral research to be presented, argued and advanced in an international and scientific setting.

Successful participation will strengthen research content, method and students' ability to engage in focused, critical discourse.

The students will be assessed in this module through:

• competitive selection process of the doctoral consortium
• research paper submitted to the doctoral consortium
• assessment by the Professors reviewing proposals at the doctoral consortium

Module availability:
In coordination with supervisor: upon application at an international doctoral consortium, e. g. international doctoral research workshops, seminars or symposia on architectural design theory; low-carbon building technology and building integrated sustainability systems; or sustainable spatial development, urban and regional planning and design, or an approved related field.

Das Modul Rhetorik & Präsentation umfasst die Schwerpunkte Vorbereitung bzw. Strukturierung von Vorträgen, Visualisierung von Vorträgen, Leitung von Besprechungen, die Instrumente der Argumentation bzw. Verhandlung sowie die emotionsbasierte charismatische Rede. Zur Vorbereitung bzw. Strukturierung von Vorträgen gehören die Vorbereitung an sich, Einstieg, Gliederung und Schluss der freien Rede sowie die nonverbale Kommunikation. Moderne Präsentations- und Vortragstechniken werden unmittelbar eingeübt und erfolgreich angewandt.

Ziel der Lehrveranstaltung ist es, das akademische Schreiben und Präsentieren zu wiederholen und zu vertiefen. Die Lehrveranstaltung behandelt folgende Themenfelder:

• Bemessung und Begrenzung der Forschungstiefe
• Differenzierung und Auswahl von Zitationsstilen
• Vermeidung von Plagiat und Selbstplagiat

Im interaktiven Kolloquium werden die Grundkonzepte der zu behandelnden Inhalte eingeführt und anhand von Anwendungen verdeutlicht bzw. interpretiert.

Die Studierenden erwerben die Kompetenz zur Darstellung einer problemorientierten Abhandlung. Sie beherrschen die Erstellung eines sinnvollen Aufbaus und einer sachgerechten Gliederung einer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit. Sie werden sensibilisiert für die Wahl der angemessenen Forschungstiefe. Die Studierenden erlernen die korrekte Zitierweise und vergleichen dabei diverse Zitationsstile. Die Studierenden werden mit ethischen Fragen der research governance befasst und werden insoweit mit der aktuellen Thematik von Plagiaten konfrontiert. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt der prekären Situation des Selbstplagiats. Die Studierenden werden im Hinblick auf die Ausdrucksweise und den Stil geschult. Besonders wird hierbei auf verschiedene Argumentationsmethoden sowie die juristische Methodenlehre eingegangen. Die Lehrveranstaltung dient ferner dazu, die rhetorischen Fähigkeiten der Studierenden zu verbessern. Dabei werden Präsentations- und Vortragsmethoden einstudiert und anhand von praktischen Übungen vertieft. Der vertiefte Umgang mit Literatur und Rechtsprechung soll zur Erhöhung der Selbstsicherheit beim wissenschaftlichen Schreiben führen und Schreibblockaden vorbeugen.

Im Modul Unternehmensfinanzierung und Risikomanagement werden drei Themenbereiche behandelt. Im ersten Teil werden anhand praktischer Fälle die unterschiedlichen Verfahren der Investitionsrechnung vorgestellt und miteinander verglichen. Im zweiten Teil werden die gängigsten Formen der Unternehmensfinanzierung behandelt und ihr Einsatz kritisch miteinander verglichen. Im dritten Teil des Moduls werden zunächst die verschiedenen finanziellen Risiken eines Unternehmens herausgearbeitet. Danach werden unterschiedliche Finanzinstrumente, z.B. Derivate wie Forwards, Futures, Swaps und Optionen, vorgestellt und kritisch miteinander verglichen. Abschliessend wird anhand von praktischen Fällen gezeigt, wie mit Hilfe von Finanzinstrumenten ein Risikomanagement aufgebaut werden kann. In der Diskussion wird insbesondere die unterschiedliche Absicherungswirkung je nach benutztem Instrument kritisch hinterfragt.
