Learning Objectives
The module International Accounting and Taxation introduces the issues of corporate group accounting according to international standards (IAS/IFRS) as well as taxation of internationally active corporations and corporate groups in particular. While group accounting assumes the fiction of the legal entity of a corporate group, in tax law the autonomy of the individual group undertakings under private law calls for their separate taxation. Thus the effective tax rate assumes special significance by illustrating a determining criterion for corporate group taxation, since it lies in the area of conflict between corporate group tax law and corporate group accounting.
After completion of the course on International Accounting, the students have at their disposal basic knowledge of international corporate group accounting according to IAS/IFRS.
After completion of the course on International Taxation, the students have comprehensive knowledge of the national, international and European tax law relating to the taxation of natural and legal persons in Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Additionally, the students are able to explain the opportunities and limits of international tax planning regarding internationally active corporations and to analyse and verify the accompanying changes in taxation.
