- Planning process of international market entry and market development (international strategy, international market selection and segmentation, alternative entry modes, timing, etc.)
- Export marketing mix versus global marketing mix (product adaptation, international product development, management of international product life cycles, global products and services, branding, export pricing, price strategies on the world market, global communication, management of international distribution channels, international marketing logistics)

Learning Results
After the course the students will understand the characteristic challenges of international market entry and market development. They will be able to identify and assess opportunities and risks of international operations. For this purpose the students know where to find appropriate sources of information about foreign country markets and cultures and how to use this information in order to select profitable international markets. The students learn to evaluate trade-offs between a firm's adaptation to local needs and a global approach.
With the case study method, course participants learn to combine theory and practice and to apply specialized knowledge and methods to business settings. As the course is in English, language skills will be improved. Moreover, presentation techniques and teamwork are enhanced. Teamwork brings benefit in terms of social competence.

Project Description
This course examines the key elements of the international entrepreneurial venture. The learning perspective will be that of the global entrepreneur – one whose business is “born global,” and who may capitalise upon resources from anywhere in the world, while facing global competition and other uncertainties at any time. Specific topics the course will cover include:
- motivations to go global,
- traits of international entrepreneurs,
- business opportunity identification and assessment,
- opportunities and barriers to international trade,
- cultures and international entrepreneurship,
- strategic alliances,
- global marketing and R&D,
- developing the global business plan and managing global expansion,
- foreign market selection models
Teaching Method
This course will proceed primarily through critical analysis of the text, cases, and other readings that have been assigned for the course. Thus, it is imperative that students read these materials in advance and are well prepared to work with these concepts in course projects and discussions.

- Assess the viability of a new business concept or idea
- Understand the issues involved in initiating a global new venture
- Identify the critical assumptions underlying a new business concept and the milestones in implementing the business concept

During the educational journey “Discover New Markets” the lecture content is intensified and deepened through treatment of business problems resulting in the following leaning outcomes and requisite skills:
Social and Methodological Skills
- The educational journey “Discover New Markets” provides the participants with practically relevant insights into internationalisation in new, developing markets. The study trip is conducted for example in China, India, Latin America, Scandinavia on an alternating basis.
- Through university lectures and talks with entrepreneurs, the students are provided with insight into the most significant influential factors impacting business dealings in a selected international market.
- The students are taught practically relevant implementation processes for internationalisation, including explanations of country-specific business customs, negotiation practices, intercultural particularities, market entry strategies and shifting of individual units in the value added chain.
Social and Methodological Skills
- The students receive the opportunity of directly applying their knowledge accrued from the lectures to everyday business dealings in a foreign destination.
- The students practice their intercultural skills in direct contact with foreign cultures and market conditions.

Project Description
Die europäische Philosophie ging im 19. Jahrhundert davon aus, dass die Religion aus der Moderne verschwindet. Diese Prognose erweist sich aus einer globalen Perspektive als eurozentrisch. Und spätestens seit dem 11. September 2001 ist von der "Rückkehr der Religion" die Rede, womit im Grunde genommen eine politisierte Religion bezeichnet wird. Im Schlussbericht des Nationalen Forschungsprogrammes "Religionen, Staat und Gesellschaft" (NFP 58) werden in Hinblick auf die religiöse Situation in der Schweiz die drei Trends Pluralisierung, Individualisierung und Säkularisierung genannt. Im Zusammenhang mit diesen gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen stellt sich zuerst einmal die Frage, was Religion überhaupt ist? Hierzu werden im Seminar klassische und neoklassische Texte der Religionssoziologie vorgestellt und diskutiert, in denen funktionalistische und substantiale Definitionen von Religion behandelt werden. Darauf aufbauend werden Phänomene wie protestantischer und islamischer Fundamentalismus, Pentekostalismus (charismatischer Evangelikalismus) und populäre Religionen (also Esoterik etc.) behandelt.
