The module "Research Methods in Information and Process Management Science" aims at deepening the students' skills in research design. It focuses on pivotal issues of conducting and structuring research activities as part of information and process management research.

Learning Results
Students successfully participating in the module will
  • know how to explain the design science approach as related to 'traditional' approaches in research,
  • be able to differentiate between major constructs and issues in information systems research, such as relevance, rigour, truth, and utility,

  • be able to structure the design science research process,
  • be capable of conducting rigorous literature reviews as part of design science research,
  • know about major evaluation methods,
  • be aware of the role of theories in design science research, and
  • know the major information systems outlets for publishing design science research.

Project Description
The primary objective of the doctoral consortium or the International Conference Participation is to present and defend the PhD students' research in a competitive and international scientific environment.
Since successful applications are invited to be discussed by a selective academic committee this module also serves to further develop the communicative and social competences of the students.
Students' participating in this module arranged in the context of an internationally well-regarded doctoral consortium or a conference in International Financial Services receive critical comments and feedback on their research project by experienced faculty members and student participants. Moreover, they benefit from listening to the other students' experiences and results.

Learning Objectives
This module helps to enable the student
  • to further intensify the existing knowledge and methodology needed for the dissertation project;
  • to independently develop a research concept for specific research questions;
  • to develop, analyze and synthesize new complex ideas;
  • to develop a social, scientific and/or cultural progress for an academic or non-academic environment;
  • to discuss methodological issues with colleagues working in the same area and also with laymen.
Learning Results
Students will be able to:
  • Have an advanced and intensified overview on specific topics needed for the dissertation project;
  • Develop their own research project;
  • Apply the methodological structures of these specific topics for their dissertation project;
  • Present, discuss and defend their research results to academics and make it understandable for laymen.

Assessment Methods
The defence can be held when the dissertation has been recommended for acceptance in the written appraisal of the supervisors and each supervisor has awarded a minimum grade of 4.0.

The Doctoral Examination Board holds the defence and determines which grade is awarded.

The Introduction Week introduces you to living in Liechtenstein and studying at Hochschule Liechtenstein.
Learning Results
By the end of the week you will have
- met other international students and the International Office team
- become familiar with university departments and support services
- familiarised yourself with the local area and important Liechtenstein institutions
- built a foundation level of passive and active German language skills
- received information about Liechtenstein as a country and place to study
- experienced culture and lifestyle in Liechtenstein and the surrounding area
- presented your impressions of this week to an audience

The German lessons and afternoon activities are key elements of the introduction week. Afternoon activities promote the practical application of language skills introduced in the German lessons and will help you practise using German for communication in real-life situations.
Assessment Methods
To obtain 2 ECTS you will need to:
- Participate actively in all lectures and events of the introduction week
- Do outside of class work as required (see schedule)
- Give a presentation at the end of the week
Grade
After the Introduction Week, German lessons continue on a weekly basis as of the second week of March (Thursdays 17.15-19.45, 3 teaching units, 3 ECTS credit points). Please note that you need to register for this class within the registration period.

Project Description
Das Modul Masterthesis setzt sich zusammen aus (SPO Art. 44):
a) der Masterthesis,
b) dem Kolloquium zur Masterthesis und
c) der Präsentation und Verteidigung der Masterthesis.
Teaching Method
In der Masterthesis wird ein studiengangsspezifisches Problem auf wissenschaftlicher Grundlage selbständig erarbeitet (SPO Art. 46).
Learning Objectives
Mit der Masterthesis wird ermittelt, ob folgende Ziele erreicht wurden (SPO Art. 42):
a) eine umfassende Ausbildung auf universitären Niveau,
b) die Befähigung zu wissenschaftlicher Arbeitsweise,
c) die für die Ausübung des Berufes erforderlichen Grundlagen und fachlichen Kompetenzen
und Kommunikationsfähigkeiten vorhanden sind.

Assessment Methods
In der SPO sind die Bewertung der Masterthesis (Art. 49), das Kolloquium (Art.51-53) und die Präsentation und Verteidigung der Masterthesis (Art.54-59) geregelt.
