Connect Locally

Our Alumni Chapters

Alumni Chapters are regional groups of graduates who meet regularly to stay in touch with each other and with the University of Liechtenstein. By establishing these chapters, we aim to give you the opportunity to engage with the university’s network in your everyday life and within your local area.

These gatherings are open to all graduates of the University of Liechtenstein, as well as to university staff visiting or living in the respective region or city, and to students completing internships in the area.

Currently, four chapters have been established in Liechtenstein and its German-speaking neighbouring countries: Liechtenstein, Vorarlberg, Zurich, and Munich. Further chapters are in planning.

Ass.-Prof. Dr. Frederik Riar

Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management

Mehrere Hände halten verzahnte Zahnräder als Symbol für Teamarbeit und Kooperation.

Welcome to the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management. Our research and teaching examine how firms are founded, how they grow, and how they remain successful over the long term. We combine international scholarship with rigorous, interactive teaching and research–practice collaborations to generate societal impact.

Mehrere Hände halten verzahnte Zahnräder als Symbol für Teamarbeit und Kooperation.

Our Research Focus Areas

In entrepreneurship, we explore what motivates venture creation and how entrepreneurial action can generate value and achieve sustained success over time. We pay particular attention to the emotional and psychological dynamics that influence entrepreneurial decision-making.

In our research on family firms, we examine how they differ from non-family firms. Specifically, we analyze how family values, intergenerational relationships, and the concept of socioemotional wealth shape firms’ strategies, governance, and long-term development.

In strategic management, we examine how organizations can achieve sustainable competitive advantage by navigating purposefully through paradoxes and by making strategic use of networks and customer knowledge. In particular, we investigate how organizations in today’s fast-paced world can be both innovative and efficient, or economically successful and environmentally sustainable at the same time.

Teaching and Executive Education

Transfer Projects with Partners

Within the framework of practice-oriented research collaborations, the professorship develops innovative solutions together with partners from business, administration and education at the intersection of information systems, artificial intelligence and business process management.

In close collaboration with various organisations, we research and develop intelligent information management systems based on large language models (LLMs) to automate knowledge-based processes and improve access to organisational knowledge.

Together with European partners, we are shaping the digital transformation in the recognition ecosystem through an Erasmus+ project by introducing and integrating micro-certificates, contributing to the flexibilisation and individualisation of vocational education pathways.

This project aims at the systematic development of process mining competencies in companies. Together with international project partners, we develop strategies, training formats and tools to sustainably integrate data-driven process analyses into operational structures.

Degree Programmes and Professional Education

In teaching, we provide the fundamentals of business informatics in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration. In the Master’s degree programme in Business Informatics, we impart in-depth knowledge at the interface of technology and business. Students can specialise in business process management, acquiring both professional and personal skills for entering the job market. In professional education, we offer practice-oriented, internationally focused formats for the targeted enhancement of digital and economic competencies for working professionals in the spirit of lifelong learning.
